Mani Parkes

"I hope my work illustrates the loveliness that I see in the world .”

Following an Art Foundation course at Lincoln College of Art, Mani Parkes studied Illustration at UWE Bristol and then transferred to Edinburgh College of Art where Mani Parkes graduated in 1997 with a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication.

The day to day sights that Mani Parkes sees on the school run often inspire her paintings.  Cycling through the higgledy - piggledy streets, Mani Parkes loves the charming buildings and quirky characters that she sees.  Mani Parkes loves nature, a beautiful pair of spotty wellingtons or a stripy scarf.  Sitting at her living room table Mani Parkes will turn simple sketchbook doodles into cheerful paintings, using acrylic paint combining a muted palette of chalky blues, greys and whites with an uplifting dash of red.

Mani Parkes’s wish is to capture a quiet moment that makes people smile.
